The Santos-Dumont Demoiselle is an experimental pioneer era aircraft. Created in Second Life by Velocity Aeronautics, the Demoiselle was based on the real-life Santos-Dumont Demoiselle, built in France by Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1907.
Background
In 1907 Brazilian aviation pioneer Albero Santos-Dumont unveiled his Demoiselle, or Damselfly. Weighing in at only 300 pounds, it was compact, easy to build, and a great starting point for other budding aviators. In 1910 Popular Mechanics magazine published the plans for his latest model. The Demoiselle was also featured in the 1965 film "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".
