The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota, RAF designation (ICAO: DC3 / WAKE: MEDIUM) is a fixed-wing propeller-driven military transport aircraft. Created in Second Life by Adventure Air, the aircraft was based on the real-life Douglas C-47, manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company.
Developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner, the real-life C-47 differed from the DC-3 in numerous modifications, including being fitted with a cargo door and strengthened floor, along with a shortened tail cone for glider-towing shackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II and remained in front line service with various military operators through the 1950s.
Available only in-world, Adventure Air's recreation of the Douglas C-47 features five pre-loaded liveries, working instruments, doors, landing gear, flaps, and realistic lighting.
