This is a historic article about an airport which no longer exists or has been replaced.
Firelands Intercontinental Airport (ICAO: SLFI) was dual-runway, fixed platform public airport and marina in the 'Diafall' region of central Nautilus. The airport was located directly adjacent to DMC's Airport.
Landing Advisories
- Airport was located on a platform above the surface at 70m elevation. Additional facilities located below airport platform. Recommended minimum approach 80m.
Background
After their planned acquisition of Second Life International Airport (at that time known as Antilaghi Regional Airport) ran into last minute difficulties in January 2015, the Firelands Properties Group (represented by Carlalynn Laville) decided to construct an entirely new facility in the 'Diafall' region of central Nautilus. Officially opened on 24th January 2015, Firelands Intercontinental Airport featured a two-tiered design consisting of an airport platform suspended over a marina at sea-level (featuring rental moorings for small and large watercraft).
The airport deck itself was equipped with twin 235m x 20m asphalt runways (both lit) located on the eastern edge of the platform. At the centre of the airport was a large three-storey terminal building equipped with an ATC tower, public helipad and two public gates with adjustable jet bridges. Inside the terminal were eight airline check-in desks (with office space) available for rent and seats for waiting passengers. During February, the terminal underwent additional construction to include a dedicated airship dock atop the revised ATC tower.
Outside, surrounding the terminal to the north and west of the platform were fifteen rentable hangars. The buildings were of two sizes and were available with hangar space, living or office space, and a helipad on the rooftop. To the far south of the flight-deck were emergency fire and rescue services, as well as a refuelling station providing DSA , TBM, NTBI GFS, and Dani branded fuel.
On 24th March 2015, airport management announced that Firelands Intercontinental would be closing on April 1st, 2015. Reasons cited included a desire to create a new airport facility in a different location and on a smaller scale. The structure has since been dismantled.
Airlines
There are no longer scheduled services to and from Firelands Intercontinental Airport , as of April 2015.
