The Douglas DC-3 (ICAO: DC3 / WAKE: MEDIUM) is a fixed-wing propeller-driven airliner. Created in Second Life by Adventure Air, the aircraft was based on the real-life Douglas DC-3, manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company.

Background

The real-life Douglas DC-3's speed and range revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Its lasting impact on the airline industry and World War II makes it one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made. The major military version of which more than 10,000 were produced was designated the C-47 Skytrain in the USA and the Dakota in the UK. Many DC-3s and converted C-47s are still used in all parts of the world.[1]

Available only in-world, Adventure Air's recreation of the Douglas DC-3 features five pre-loaded liveries, working instruments, doors, landing gear, flaps, and realistic lighting.

Features

  • Pilot Heads-up display (HUD).
  • Animated components (interior/exterior doors, control surfaces, landing gear, propellers).
  • Exterior lighting (landing light, navigation lights, strobes, and beacon).
  • Five pre-loaded liveries.
