Background

Following the opening of the adjacent Aleksandr International Airport in March 2014, Gorlanova Airport was given a radical re-design and was lowered from 300m to 100m above the surface. Still retaining its split-level, floating platform design, the airport gained a new modern-styled terminal building with four gates , lounge facilities four helipads and an ATC tower.

Fuel services still remain at the north-end of the main deck, Additional hanger space was also constructed in the north and south corner of the flight-deck. Gorlanova's lower deck, still accessible by an aircraft elevator at the north-east edge of the flight-deck, now contains emergency services and hangar space owned by the Monster Energy Air-Race Team.
