The Piper PA-18 Super Cub (ICAO: PA18 / WAKE: LIGHT) is a two-seat, single-engine monoplane. Created in Second Life by Laminar Systems, it was based on the real-life Piper PA-18 developed by Piper Aircraft in 1949. The Laminar PA-18 is sold in two variants: a standard version with wheeled undercarriage and an amphibian equipped with floats.
Background
The real-life PA-18 Super Cub was introduced in 1949 by Piper Aircraft. It was developed from the Piper PA-11, and traces its lineage back through the J-3 to the Taylor E-2 Cub of the 1930s. In close to 40 years of production, over 9,000 were built. Super Cubs are commonly found in roles such as bush flying, banner and glider towing.
The iconic Cub is known for docile behaviour and ease of flight. With this in mind, the Laminar Systems PA-18 has been designed with the intention of being easy to fly for beginners but advanced enough for veteran pilots. The fully meshed model is modifiable and PSD (Photoshop Document) templates are available for custom paints. The aircraft seats two with both a group and guest mode as well as copilot controls.
Laminar's PA-18 comes equipped with working instruments, custom sounds, custom animations, and is sold in two variants: a standard version with wheeled undercarriage and an amphibian equipped with floats.
