- Short runway & wide-wingspan advisories.
- Unorthodox runway markings.
Formerly home to Velocity Bungalow Airstrip, the 'Xobite' region was left unoccupied for almost a year before being returning to aviation use in February 2015. The Flying Dutchman Airstrip was a small airfield equipped with a single 105m x 25m north-south runway. To the west of the landing surface was a large hangar containing an aviation museum (displaying vintage aircraft memerobelia from c.1914-1945). The building also contained a lounge area with seating and houses the facility's ATC tower. In the south-west corner was a docking area for seaplanes and boats, as well as an anti-aircraft gun, helipad and aircraft refuelling station (Dani fuel). North of the runway was a modest war memorial and contemplation area. Operational for almost two months, the airfield was dismantled in April 2015 and has ceased operating.
Currently, there are no scheduled services operating to or from Flying Dutchman Airstrip, however charter flights may be available on request. Please contact airlines for more information.
