The Kamov Ka-29TB “Helix” (ICAO: KA27 / WAKE: MEDIUM) is a Soviet/Russian assault transport helicopter with co-axial rotors. Created in Second Life by Spijkers & Wingtips, the aircraft was based on the real-life Ka-29TB “Helix” manufactured by Kamov.

Background

The real-life Ka-29 (NATO reporting name: “Helix”) was part of the Ka-27 family of Soviet/Russian aircraft. The Ka-27 and its subsequent variants were developed for ferrying and anti-submarine warfare. Design work began in 1969 and the first prototype flew in 1973. The Ka-29TB (Transportno Boyevoy) is a dedicated assault transport derivative of the Ka-27 family, intended especially for the support of Russian navy amphibious operations and featuring a substantially changed airframe. Like other Kamov military helicopters it has a co-axial rotor, removing the need for a tail rotor.

Spijkers & Wingtips's KA-29 comes equipped with a cargo hook system, three pre-loaded liveries, working instruments and functioning lights. It is also customizable, with independent vendors developing additional equipment for the helicopter. Like all S&W helicopters, the aircraft uses a collective/cyclic flight system and is fully modifiable.
