Kazenojin Executive Airport, also initially known as Gray Field, (ICAO: SLKN) is a historic public airport in the 'Gray' region of Sansara. Founded in 2003 by a group of Second Life Beta members, Kazenojin is Second Life's oldest aviation community. Kazenojin shares a sim-border with the adjacent Blue Airstrip.
- Region directly east of airport is a public sandbox. Beware of builds and excessive script use.
Beginning its life in May 2003 during beta-testing of Second Life, a contest was held to determine who would get to construct themed areas in sims that were to be opened to the public the following month. Goodwill Epoch, Realtime Rogers, and several other people assembled a group of builders with the goal of putting together a community which would serve airships and other flying machines. The group's proposal was accepted by Linden Lab and they were awarded one of four sims (closed to the public at the time) for construction. The project proved very successful, and the area went through two more design iterations over the years. The initial airship port had a large base, a pin point top, and covered nearly the entire sim space. This first port was later taken down (most likely due to financial constraints) and a second slightly smaller model was built. The second port had a significantly different architecture.
Today, Kazenojin is the oldest known surviving airport in Second Life - indeed, one of the oldest surviving builds of any kind. In a landscape that changes almost constantly, it has remained a constant. The current iteration of the facility is equipped with two 130m x 20m landing surfaces flanked by tie-down spaces/hangar-tents and is dominated by an iron lattice tower atop a concrete and glass terminal building (with ATC tower). A 'space elevator' runs through the center of the tower, connecting the ground level to the sub-basement (an industrial-themed powerhouse area), the terminal building (passenger lounge and offices), the Finish Line bar, an aviation museum, airship docks, workshops, and the Starlight lounge.
Currently, there are no scheduled services operating to or from Kazenojin Executive Airport, however charter flights may be available on request. Please contact airlines for more information.
