The Sikorsky S-300, formerly Hughes 300 and Schweizer 300 (ICAO: H269 / WAKE: LIGHT) is a single-engine, light utility and trainer helicopter. Created in Second Life by Animate Works, the helicopter was loosely based on the real-life S-300 initially produced by Hughes Helicopters.

Background

The real-life S-300 is part of family of light utility helicopters which was originally produced by Hughes Helicopters, as a development of the Hughes 269. Later manufactured by Schweizer Aircraft, the basic design has been in production for almost 50 years. The single, three-bladed main rotor and piston-powered S-300 is mostly used as a cost-effective platform for training and agriculture.

The Animate Works S-300 is loosely based on its real life counterpart, but is not intended to be an exact replication of it. The aircraft is entirely constructed in mesh, with flight scripting and physics licensed from Patrick Lawson's Real Flight engine. Intended to produce a more realistic flight experience, the script is capable of simulating high altitude flight, auto-rotation, and flared landings. Although the S-300 lacks animated cockpit instruments or a pilot's heads-up display (HUD), flight information is conveyed by floating text over the instrument console and tail-section. The S-300 is available in two variants - a 'land' version with skids and a 'marine' version with floats. Both are available for purchase separately or as part of a bundle package.
