St Martin Airfield (ICAO: SLSM) - formerly named St Martin Strip - was a public single-runway island airfield spanning the 'St Martin', 'Saint Kitts' and 'Port Au Prince' regions of the Sailor's Cove East Estate - an independently operated group of sims in the eastern part of the Blake Sea.

Landing Advisories

  • Short runway and wide wingspan advisories.
  • Narrow strip running along a sandbar, pre-landing flyover is advised.

Background

Founded in 2013 as St Martin Strip, the aerodrome began as a simple airfield squeezed onto a 'U'-shaped island in the tropics of Sailor's Cove East. Since its inception, the facility has continuously been equipped with a single 110m x 18m runway, a seaplane ramp and a docking area for watercraft in general.

Following a major renovation in the third quarter of 2013, St Martin was provided with a dedicated terminal building with rental space for airline operators, a café and lounge facilities. The airfield's runway was also upgraded with runway-edge lighting. With the expansion of Sailor's Cove East in early 2014, St Martin Strip expanded into a newly created adjoining sim, gaining much needed parking/turning space, an ATC center, marina with eight seaplane docks, a public helipad, and an aviation fuel station.

As a result of the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, rising costs of sim maintenance due to a decrease in worth of the Norwegian krone in comparison to the US Dollar, among other factors - region owner Ey Ren was forced to scuttle Sailor's Cove East, including St. Martin. As a result, after April 2020, St. Martin Airfield was closed.
