The Stearman PT-17 (ICAO: ST75 / WAKE: LIGHT) also known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman or Kaydet, was a two-seater biplane trainer. Created in Second Life by Terra Aeronautics, the plane was based on the real-life Stearman PT-17 manufactured by Stearman Aircraft (later a subsidiary of Boeing). It was a member of the Stearman Model 75 series of aircraft.

Background

The real-life Model 75 (of which the PT-17 is a variant) was a military trainer aircraft, of which at least 10,626 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. It served as a primary trainer for the USAAF, the USN (as the NS & N2S), and with the RCAF as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civilian market. In the immediate postwar years they became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in airshows. The Model 75 had numerous designations based on its power plant; the PT-17 was a specific variant equipped with a Continental R-670-5 engine.[1]
